- Sodium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the formula NaOH, also known as caustic soda.
- Application
- Caustic soda is used to make soaps, sodium silicate (water glass) from silica, in the textile industry, for the production of detergents, dyes, cellulose, artificial silk, rubber, in rubber regeneration, in industrial water treatment, refining of crude oil and mineral oils, treatment of liquid coking products and wastewater; as an aqueous solution (10-30%) it is a component of various cleaning agents and bleaches (e.g. Domestos, Clorox, etc.) and drain cleaners; it is also used as a laboratory reagent. Granular sodium hydroxide is used as an absorption medium.
